In the House (2012)

Ok, so I just finished watching the movie "In The House," or  "Dans la maison" which is the original title in French. It's directed by: François Ozon and is rated R for sexual content and language.

I've watched the movie, in parts, off an on, for the past four or so days. I struggle to imagine what I would have felt if I watched it in one sitting because in all the sittings I had with the movie I was left craving more, craving resolution, wondering about the things that were happening and all the while being fueled by an equally suspenseful, equally wonderful musical score. I was really moved by it, I actually want to buy it but I can't find it anywhere but on the French version of Amazon. But I digress. I have since ordered the movie on Amazon and I think it just might, if it isn't already, be creeping up on my top 15 favorite movies list.

The movie has several central characters but I'd say the main is the boy, Claude, with a close second being his English teacher, Mr. Germain. Mr. Germain notices writing talent in the young Claude and seeks to make and shape the talent into something. He winds up giving Claude extended private writing lessons, for various reasons I'd say. At any rate, what comes about because of Claude's writing is the real concern/interest of the movie. Everything, for the most part, Claude writes about he is writing about from experience and these experiences revolve around a family, so called perfect family, that he aims to get to know. To get "in their house." He  befriends Rapha, and he befriends Rapha because he's really interested in Rapha's mother.

So as you can see, it's rather complicated because 16 year old boys don't usually go for mothers with sons their own age and if they do, it's because something else is wrong. This is alluded to in the movie, but not fully fleshed out. I really appreciated the complexity of the movie although I do think some things were a bit too simplified. I'm not talking the movie down because of these "over simplifications" which are things that I would have loved to be delved deeper into. I don't consider them "bad" because the movie aims high, and you can't hit high and stay high all the time. Everything has its ups and it's downs. Even if it doesn't hit high lol.

I knew one actor in the movie Denis Ménochet because he played at the beginning of the movie "Inglorious Bastards" and I think he did an excellent job. I also think I've seen Kristin Scott Thomas in something other than "Mission Impossible", which I have seen, but can't seem to remember what else that would be. Even though I looked at her entire filmogrophy.  Other than those two I know of none of the actors in the movie.

Anyway, I suppose I may update this some more later. But for now I'm going to call it good. Till next time!
